The iSonics are all-new for 2017 except the 117 and divided into three groups: the Speed Slaloms (70, 75, 80, 87, and 90), the Slaloms (97 and 107) and the Race Slaloms (117, 127 and 137).

The new iSonics have improved jibing performance with new round tail designs.
By adding some volume above the cut-aways and reducing the depth of the secondary step from 20 mm to 10 mm, you have some added float and power for faster and more forgiving jibe exits without affecting straight line performance.

The added volume gained from reducing the depth of the cut-aways also helps with control and in particular, lateral stability in tough, windy conditions.
This new round tail design and cut-aways can be seen on all of the 2017 iSonic Slaloms and has been adapted for the Speed Slalom and Race Slalom series.

The iSonic Race Slalom 117 remains unchanged for 2017. The full, round tail design on this model added too much power and the test team opted to keep the original shape.

The new iSonics also have a new Vee distribution throughout the hull for improved jibing and a more lively, yet controlled and comfortable free ride. It also helps reduce the wetted-area on a wider tail surface.

The iSonics keep their low-nose concept for reduced drag and added control.
The profiles remain thin for wind range and the deck concaves provide control, a more vertical sail position while closing the gap between the sail and the deck of the board.

The iSonic Race Slaloms are changing in concept this year with the 127 and 137 fully designed to be light wind efficiency orientated.
Based on Formula development, the tails are wider, there’s more volume to plane up earlier and through lulls and there’s the added camel hump for added pumping power our of jibes and to get planing faster.

The iSonic Speed series are also new for 2017.
The iSonic Speed Luderitz Special remains as the smallest model for the fastest speeds. The all-new iSonic Speed Slalom 70 and 75 replace the previous iSonic W.49 and W.54. These are the perfect boards for high-wind slalom or speed sailing in open sea or flat waters.
Just like the rest of the iSonics, the Speed series also evolve to a new, round tail outline combined with 10 mm deep cut-aways to combine performance and control, with an improved jibe.

The iSonic Slalom and Race Slalom models come with the next iteration of our Drake UltraLight footstraps. These new UltraLight footstraps are reinforced with a thin X-ply layer to prevent them from stretching and bending at no extra weight.
The iSonic Speed models are delivered with Drake Slick straps that are stiffer and more controllable.

What is UltraCore?
UltraCore is Starboard’s proprietary sandwich core material that’s 30% stronger, 40% stiffer and 10% lighter than conventional PVC sandwich cores. UltraCore allows Starboard to build boards up to 1.2 kg lighter than our 2016 models.

Hybrid Carbon
We’ve expanded our UltraCore innovation to the iSonics. The new UltraCore Carbon models come in at the same weight to 100g lighter than last year’s Carbon model. These boards are stiffened up between rider’s back foot and the mast foot pressure, with four smart-carbon vectors on the deck and a full Carbon Innegra perimeter band.
Now, our 2016 iSonics were already the lightest construction technology. The new UltraCore Hybrid Carbon are a little bit lighter again.
Reflex carbon
On top of that, we’re also introducing a special series of UltraCore Reflex Carbon models. These are even lighter again. They are our very lightest boards built in the most exclusive, lightest grade biaxial carbon fibres on top of our exclusive UltraCore sandwich core. Combining these two gives boards that are our absolute lightest.
